When we finished our work, it was nearly dark.

然后才是成绩最好的学生顺利答题，而中等程度学生作业用时最多。作业看似篇幅大却可用力小，如做阅读理解题；看似单一却执行艰难，如背单词。这一现象在英语学科的作业中显得十分突出而常见。
